Keeping things together since 1889
OPAS was formed in 1889 by Mr.E.A.Opas as a wholesale supplier to the blind and awning trade. The core business was providing the blocks, pulleys, rings and fittings that were used to manufacture blinds and awnings for shops up and down the country. In the photo you can see a typical street view, in this case Shepherds Bush, London in 1931 and the awnings are likely to have been made using OPAS fittings.
The business prospered, branching out into every kind of textile and marine fitting, and despite the best efforts of the Reich which bombed OPAS twice during WW2, OPAS remained calm and carried on. The company was founded on the traditional values of reliability and service, and this ethos has been nurtured by John and David Ramus who took over OPAS in 1979.
As our catalogue and website illustrates, OPAS now offers a wider than ever range of products for the marquee, marine and textile industries. You are looking at probably the largest selection of textile and marine fasteners available anywhere in the UK.
We have unique relationships with the major manufacturers both here, across Europe and in the USA, with unparalleled access to new products and technical backup.
